VELCOME to the 2025 Out ov the Coffin HALLOWEEN SPECIAL! A ghoul-guided three-hour-tour through the crypts of Halloween-obsessed Goth, post-punk, deathrock, darkwave, metal, and horror! Featuring: NEW, current, and classic FULL-SIZE songs, riddled with dozens of fun-sized bites of cvlt movie dialogue, sound effects, trailers, TV spots, novelty records, horror movie sounds, and FAR too many thunderclaps -- all assembled in ritual formation, and (g)hosted by yours truly, DJ Ichabod.

 
This year's episode artwork SKELEbrates the 40th anniversary of the obscure made-for-TV Halloween movie, The Midnight Hour, and that's just one of a whole pillowcase full of films and albums gathered from the 1985 season that are celebrated in this episode, alongside essential entries from 1975, 1995, and even (gasp) 2000! 

Never fear though! This year's episode artwork was inspired by the 40th anniversary of the cult heavy metal horror film, Rocktober Blood. As the legend goes, one of the first (and the few) theaters in which the film premiered in October of 1984 was in Nashville, so I couldn't resist pulling from one of my favorite horror sub-genres for both an anniversary theme AND a costume this year. Yes, if you guessed that was me dressed up as the main character in the classic Fang Face mask, you're right! Big thanks to Gabe at Studio Luna for capturing this shot at the Fascination Street Halloween party earlier this month!

But that's not the only anniversary to mark. In fact, there were so many 40th anniversaries to mark that there's an entire set entitled "Halloween 1984" just to celebrate them all! I'll also drop some '90s Halloween nostalgia into your pillow cases, too, along with some cursed relics of an even older vintage to help turn you into a, well, nevermind...

Like a stolen corpse exacting its revenge, the Out ov the Coffin HALLOWEEN SPECIAL has trespassed the veils of night and death to haunt your speakers once again! Prepare your bodies for a ghoul-guided three-hour-tour through the crypts of Halloween-obsessed Goth, post-punk, death rock, darkwave, metal, and horror! Featuring: NEW, current, and classic FULL-SIZE songs, riddled with dozens of fun-sized bites of cvlt movie dialogue, sound effects, trailers, TV spots, novelty music, and horror movie soundtracks, all assembled in ritual formation, and (g)hosted by yours truly, DJ Ichabod.

Once again, in addition to a cryptful of clasSICK Halloween Hymns and SCAREities from the vault, I have ungraved some fresh musical specimens for you this year, including new tricks from The Waning Moon, Ashes Fallen, Vision Video, Aurelio Voltaire, Boo Dudes, Los Vampiros del Mar, Final Gasp, WitchHands, Tragic Black, Ritual Howls, and Crystal Coffin, alongside new seasonal instrumentals from Halloween Scene and John Carpenter.

This year's artwork was directly inspired by the 40th anniversary of the oft-overlooked 1983 horror classic, "Frightmare" (aka The Horror Star"), a film that just drips Halloween atmosFEAR, with its excessive use of fog-lit corridors, wonderfully overwhelming sound design, and (of corpse) an unhealthy amount of shots featuring outlandish mausoleums, expansive cemeteries, and exploding coffins! Needless to say, I recommend this one to set the right HOWLiday tone, which is why samples from the film are heavily featured in this episode.

On a serious note: As this year's special was being assembled, the sad news of Lara Parker's death came out, and even though samples of her dialogue had already been gathered for this episode, I decided to feature a full clip in this year's intro section, taken from one of her strongest performances in the original "Dark Shadows" series, where she famously portrayed Angelique.
