PLAYLIST: Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Last week, I set no less than 3 traps to capture the audio from this show, so as to finally have a podcast version again. Despite all of the extra effort, and much to my surprise, only one of them turned out, and even it was a bit damaged during the first hour. However, I've now restored the damaged portion and made it available for download (praise... something?!?). Grab it below...

**It should be noted that the source for this episode's podcast version, unlike those before it, was the actual on-air broadcast, so you'll hear some static, but it's better than hearing no show at all.

This episode brought us new tracks from two of dark music's heaviest hitters: Brendan Perry (of Dead Can Dance) and Peter Murphy (of Bauhaus, of course). Both are releasing new solo albums, Perry's entitled "Ark," and Murphy's simply called "Ninth." Both men also continue to impress us with not only their songwriting abilities, but their still-amazing voices. Carry on, both of you.

Otherwise, here's what was played...

PLAYLIST: Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Curses! It seems that the [expletive deleted] WRVU archiver flubbed again this week, leaving no recording of the show, for the second week in a row. On top of that, the back-up plan to store this week's episode failed as well, as the computer used to capture it didn't have enough memory to record without inserting long gaps of silence every few seconds. Thus, I have no podcast to share with you this week, and no stream -- but I've done the next best thing and linked each song title (in most cases, at least) to a place online where you can stream the song, or watch a video.

For next week, I will have a new piece of software in place to capture the stream from home. Ha-HAH!

This week's episode brought more new music from: Cruel Black Dove, Unextraordinary Gentlemen, Lotus Feed (whose album, "A Different Place" saw its official release today), Die Sektor, X-Fusion, and
Combichrist. I also gave Depeche Mode a musical nod, as March 17th marked the 25th anniversary of the release of their highly influential "Black Celebration" album. During the last set, I paired Worm Ouroboros and Agalloch, in honor of their show at The Earl in Atlanta this Saturday (with Nashville's own Loss. Details here).

Otherwise, here's what was played...

PLAYLIST: Thursday, March 10th, 2011

This week brought new music from Menschdefekt and Dark Castle, along with a nod to Alice in Chains' original bassist, Mike Starr, who was found dead on March 8th. Although Alice in Chains might seem like an odd band to be paid a tribute on "Out ov the Coffin," I always appreciated the dark, sickly quality of some of their earlier work, and it actually caused me to seek more music like that -- which caused me to become ever more interested in gothic rock. Also, being a bass player, I liked Mike Starr's style, and I felt that his dismissal from the band coincided (at the very least) with the end of their glory days.

Unfortunately, this particular episode is available as neither a stream or a podcast. There was a server error that night, which caused a failure in the archiving system. So, the stream that you'll hear at wrvu.org right now is the show from March 3rd, and having no stream from which to derive the podcast, there is nothing to post -- unless one of you fine people recorded it and wants to send it over. Let me know, if so...

Otherwise, here's what was played...

PLAYLIST: Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

This week brought a pile of new industrial entries from the likes of DYM, X-Fusion, and Die Sektor, along with fresh darkwave and post-punk/goth from Unextraordinary Gentlemen and Lotus Feed, and new punk-infused black metal (aka "black n' roll') from Greece's Dodsferd. Some requests were squeezed in, along with some oddities from the vault, and a bit more than usual from the soundtrack department to tie the whole piece together.

Once again, this episode is available as a podcast, in the oh-so-convenient mp3 format. One note on the podcast version: The first minute or so of the opening theme got cut off (automation, what can you do?), but the entire rest of the show is intact. Enjoy!
