EPISODE NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:

This episode begins with brand new music from ROME's Hall of Thatch LP, which sees the project shift from the historical to the more personal, taking on a darker, more gothic tone along the way. This episode's chosen track, "Hunter," recalls Children of God-era Swans crossed with some of Bauhaus' finest moments in the shadows -- which I, for one, am really glad to hear.

The first full set begins by peering deeper into the new Black Sand EP from Fearing, who are fast becoming one of the best bands to watch in the US post-punk/goth scene. After that, we pay a quick visit to 2009 for a couple of overlooked classics from Velvet Acid Christ and The Eden House, before going a track deeper into the the new Silver Thorns EP from Australia's Lakes. Finally, Portland's Over make their debut on the show with a standalone single called "Amateur Predator," the sales of which will benefit Red Lodge Transition Services. Details on that here

As we dive head first into the pile of fresh deathrock sounds that is set two, we're treated to the pleasant surprise of new album from Italy's Horror Vacui, entitled New Wave of Fear. Being one of the best and brightest of the current deathrock scene, it's only fitting to pair them with another of the best and brightest, Oakland's Altar de Fey, and the b-side of their new Hope Dies Last/The Secret. New York's Elysian are up next, with a taste of their new self-titled 7-inch, followed by a deeper cut into Pelko, the latest from Finland's Kuudes Silmä. More music from down under rounds out the set, as I catch up with Publique's 2017 release, Outlying Self.

Reaching the darkwave zone, we begin set three with brand new music from Washington state's Dancing Plague (who recently shortened their name from the more specific The Dancing Plague of 1518). Their new album, Pure Desperation, easily the cashes the promising check written by their first EPs. Next, we jump further down the tracklist of Atomic Eyes, the latest from Andy Deane's The Rain Within, before hitting another premiere, this time from New York's Silent EM, taken from their new Foreign States cassette. We then round back to late 2017 again, to pick up some overlooked new darkwave/post-punk from Philadelphia's Remote/Control, before closing the set with one from the vault: the now-old-enough-to-drink "Dark" from Gary Numan's 1997 comeback album, Exile

The dark metal portion of the show begins with some great new music from California's Gloam, crawling, then running, from late-last-year's Death is the Beginning. Pennsylvania's Veiled come crashing in next, with the opening track of their new Black Celestial Orbs, whose black metallic speed leads us to the almost-overlooked subtlety of Nortt's latest album, a slow-moving cloud of thick, black funeral doom, entitled Endeligt. We then travel one song further into the unlit catchiness that is Down Below, from Sweden's Tribulation, before getting a second breakfast from the new, and obviously Tolkien-soaked, Summoning album, With Doom We Come.

The show then winds up with a compilation-obscurity from the ever-impressive, if often dismissed, Death In Rome, who dared to cover the nearly-sacrosanct title track from the Cure's Disintegration -- and got away with it!

All of that PLUS: Anniversary soundtrack nods this month to "Dark City" (20th), "Beetlejuice" (30th) and "The Unholy" (30th as well); Selections from the goth, neo-folk, darkwave, and horror soundtrack vaults; and more!
