Welcome to the Summer 2026 Episode of "Out ov the Coffin." Needless to say, it's been a busy (and PUNISHINGLY HOT) summer, so this one episode is standing in for June, July, and August this year -- but what a loaded show it is! In addition to the regular slate of new releases and selections from the vaults, this episode includes my annual spotlight on Dragon Con, coming up in Atlanta this Labor Day weekend!
This episode begins with a double shot of tributes, and ends the same way, in a bookended attempt to pay respects to two absolute icons in their respective fields: Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, who both died last week at the age of 80. Now, while Dolly was never associated with goth herself, plenty of goth bands took her work and translated it beautifully, so you will hear two of those covers on this show, as well as a double dose of Tim Curry being dark and atmospheric on his own. Opening the show is Tears for the Dying's lovely, haunting take on Parton's "Jolene," followed by Tim Curry's own smoke-filled, sultry voice on the Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic, "I Put a Spell on You." Rest in Peace, both of you.
The first full set begins with more fresh Italian deathrock from Horror Vacui's newly released Shadows Sanctuary. Self-described K-Goth pioneers Past Self return next with a fast-paced new single entitled 제물 (Jemul), followed by a debut from Washington DC goth act Winter Sect. We then pay tribute to the 30th anniversaries of two very important records to the mid-'90s goth sound, Faith and the Muse's incredible second album Annwyn, Beneath the Waves, and London After Midnight's ultimate club-anthem breakthrough Psycho Magnet, before saluting the 40th anniversary of underrated Scottish post-punk band Lowlife's Permanent Sleep record from 1986. Finally, we close the set with another new single from Dead Can Dance, which has been raising the eternal question of whether or not Lisa Gerard is involved in the new material.
Set two shines the spotlight on DRAGON CON 2026, which runs this Labor Day weekend, from September 3rd - 7th in Atlanta, GA. For the uninitiated, Dragon Con is the southeast's largest multimedia convention, dedicated to Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Comics, Gaming, Horror, Music, Art, Film, Television, Cosplay, and anything else about which you can be a Nerd - including Goth! As you may know, I am the Assistant Director of the Horror Track, where I run the Goth-related programming, including the annual Goth Panel ("Goth: Release the Bats") and our on-site goth dance event, The Open Casket Party!
There are hundreds of things to do at the convention, so I could do an entire show on just what to see there, but I've boiled this single set down to highlights relating to bands that are playing the convention, guests that are appearing this year, and music and sounds related to goth-friendly topics that we're covering on the Dragon Con Horror Track.
We begin with the brand new single from Dusty Gannon and the Agonal Gasps (featuring former frontman of Vision Video, Goth Dad, of course), who will be doing their first-ever live show at this year's convention! We then hear a new song(!!!) from the recently reunited cult '90s goth band, Requiem in White, which was the first band from Doc Hammer and his then-wife Lisa Hammer (who would go on to form Mors Syphilitica!). To say I was surprised to see them return is an understatement, but I am really glad they did. Doc will, of course, be at the con to talk about his co-creation, The Venture Bros., among other things. We then hear some music from the Season 3 score to "Yellowjackets," in honor of young-Lottie actor Courney Eaton's appearance, followed by a new single from Tears for the Dying, in honor of Adria's appearance on this year's "Release the Bats" Gothic/Industrial discussion panel.
We then hear new music from "The Vampire Lestat" series' soundtrack, featuring Sam Reid as Lestat, with music by composer Daniel Hart, in honor of our multiple Anne Rice fan panels this year. After that, a guest we've been hoping to land for years will finaly be joining us, so you hear some Skinny Puppy in honor of frontman Nivek Ogre's appearance at the con this year (also the 40th anniversary of the Mind:TPI album). Ogre will be speaking on the Goth panel this year, doing a Q&A with Aurelio Voltaire following a special screening of their new film "The Demonatrix," (for which you hear the trailer in this set) and appearing on panels about his movie career and playing creatures on film. Finally, we close the Dragon Con 2026 set with the latest single from The Cruxshadows, who will play in their traditional late-Sunday/early Monday slot, to close out the festivities.

Set three jumps into motion with new music from Canadian post-punk/goth/darkwave act Modele, who have been popping up everywhere in social media lately with a stack of catchy singles. You'll be able to catch them in tour this fall, including a Fascination Street presents show in Nashville on October 23rd at the East Room. From there, we delve deeper into the latest from Florida's Astari Nite, taken from their latest EP, Medications In Bloom. We are then treated to new music from Nashville's own General Trust, with the title track from their latest duskwave EP, Plans 2. Easing off the BPM pedal for a moment, we slow down the tempo and raise the distortion for new music from Sweden's Slowkill, folowed by a taste of the new Chelsea Wolfe album, The Dark, and finally transition to full, aching doom with the closing track from the first new Warning record in over 15 years, the ever-moving Rituals of Shame.
The dark metal begins in earnest on set four, which sees the return of Portugese masters Moonspell, followed by followed by a 30th anniversary throwback to the golden age of 'Beauty and the Beast' metal, in the form of Theatre of Tragedy's Velvet Darkness They Fear. "And When He Falleth" was a staple in my early radio days, with it's heavy sacreligious overtones and abundant samples from the Poe/Corman/Price film version of "The Masque of the Red Death." We then go a track deeper into the new EP from powerful Ukrainian black metal act, SVRM, before giving you a taste of the forthcoming Bloody Dreams album from everybody's favorite Philadelphia ghouls, Devil Master. One more anniversary to mention, this time for Katatonia's highly influential (on me) 1996 release, Brave Murder Day, which leads us to the closing dark metal track for the episode, an epic-length atmospheric black metal journey from Ukraine's Severoth, taken from their forthcoming album, Waves.
All of that PLUS: New experimental/ambient sounds from Ukraine's Støïbrok; New soundtrack work from "Backrooms," "Widow's Bay," "Masters of the Universe," and "Batman: Caped Crusader" S2; Selections from the goth, post-punk, and dark metal vaults; and more!
