This episode starts with some newly released live music from my favorite band of all time, The Cure, who have just issued Bestival Live 2011, a 2CD collection of the band's set at September's Bestival Fest, featuring a great, career-spanning set-list. All proceeds from the sale of the album will go to benefit the Isle of Wight Youth Trust. Learn more about that here.

Speaking of live recordings of legendary bands, Dead Can Dance has made two separate collections of live recordings available for free to people who sign up for their mailing list. The collections are called Live Happenings, Parts I and II, and are designed to whet peoples' appetites for their forthcoming album. Get the downloads here.

On the last show, I threw the spotlight on ROME's new box set, Die Aesthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit, by featuring tracks from the first two discs on that episode. This time, to round out the preview-effect, you'll hear a selection from Disc 3 of the set ("Aufgabe"). Also featured on this show: A re-issue of the British band Siiiii's collection of early '80s material, entitled Ancient; a deeper cut from the new System Syn album, All Seasons Pass; brand new "experimetal" from Iceland's Sólstafir, whose Svartir Sandar has appeared on many year-end charts already; more new music from Finland's Azaghal, from their forthcoming release, Nemesis; and a taste of Christopher Drake's score to the latest Batman animated film, "Batman: Year One," which is great, by the way.

This episode closes with two more new entries, the first from Norway's Ulver, who continue to explore the boundaries of various genres on The Wars of the Roses, and new music from a fresh Nashville post-rock/experimental act called Black Caverns.

In musical terms, the greatest thing to happen this week has certainly been the arrival of ROME's new box set, Die Aesthetik der Herrschaftsfreiheit. With 36 tracks, spread over 3 full length albums, it's a lot of greatness to absorb at once, but it maintains the quality standards set by all of Jerome Reuter's many previous releases. All of ROME's different faces are represented on the new collection, and a couple of new paths are explored as well. Not one, but two, of the new tracks are featured on this episode.

For the big fans: If you are looking to buy the new ROME box set, there is a very limited fan-edition, which comes with all 3 of the new albums, 3 hardbound books, and what I will say is their best t-shirt yet, along with a couple of other bonus pieces, that you might attempt to order right here, while they last.

Also new on this episode is music from Press Gang Metropol. If you've ever wondered what became of the legendary French goth-rock band, Corpus Delicti, then wonder no more. After their original drummer retired, they elected to go on in a somewhat different direction, under a new name.

As mentioned previously, I'm really looking forward to hearing a full-length release from California's Hyena Motorcade. As if to briefly sate that appetite, the band released a new single this week, adding to their repertoire of post-punk/art-rock, with an atmosphere reminiscent of bands like The Psychedelic Furs and legends like Bowie and The Doors. Check out their new song, "Heartbreaks," on this episode.

This episode also digs deeper into the latest releases from Skinny Puppy, Brighter Fires, and Nosferatu, while offering an advance look at an album that won't see release until early next year, from Finland's Azaghal. Their forthcoming release, Nemesis, gets the spotlight at the end of this show, in the dark metal portion.

Also featured this time: Post-punk obscurities from across the ages, some bizarre '70s neo-classical folk from France, a host of current & classic darkwave/post-punk/industrial, and a featured set of music highlighting a festival that seems to be utterly doomed, in every sense of the word: Next Weekend's Rites of Darkness III Festival* in San Antonio, Texas.

*At press time, it appears that the venue for ROD III has been shut down (temporarily?), on top of on-going financial issues that have resulted in the cancellation of more than a dozen of the featured bands (including our own Loss). Nevertheless, a group of bands that were slated to play remains the focus of the final set of this episode, because they're great bands anyway.

First, I would like to thank those of you that expressed your wishes that "Out ov the Coffin" could be produced more often rather than less. That really is good to hear, but since there is only one of me, I have to divide my time a bit more in order to keep up with all the projects I've taken on. One nice side effect of "Out ov the Coffin" going to an every-other-week format is that each episode will now be loaded with a more impressive collection of new material, and more time will allow for the cream of the crop to rise naturally. "Oh, to be the cream..."

This show brings us new, original music from one of my favorite creative forces, David Lynch, who is known best as a director, although he was no stranger to creating music before now. His taste and touch can be heard in the music from Twin Peaks and Inland Empire, among other great works. Last week saw the official release of his first full-length album, Crazy Clown Time, showcasing his trademark mix of offbeat nostalgia and dark atmosphere.

New to the show this time from Denmark is the band The Foreign Resort, whose take on modern post-punk speaks of its regional roots, as well as its musical tradition. Their self-titled release just saw the light of day last week. You can check the rest of it out here.

In the industrial realm, two of the most innovative and still-fresh acts in the genre have just released new albums. The Godfathers of industrial themselves, Skinny Puppy, are back with HanDover, and the ever-interesting Haujobb has just released New World March, which has already garnered a great deal of praise among fellow artists. You'll hear selections from both in this episode, along with a new collaboration between Nashville's own Cryogen Second and Trell Solipsist.

Gary Numan has also returned to show the music world that he hasn't lost a thing after all these years. If all you know of the man is his ode to "Cars," I encourage you to pick up his new album Dead Son Rising for some fresh perspective. Of course, you can check out one of the new tracks in this podcast.

Despite it being a little late, I chose to play an Anniversary Tribute to my favorite song of all time: The Cure's "Charlotte Sometimes," which was released as a single 30 years ago last month (if you can believe that). As part of the set, I explore all 3 of the songs that the Cure wrote about Penelope Farmer's book, "Charlotte Sometimes," which also inspired the Cure's video for the song. If you haven't read the book, I recommend it for all Cure fans. It's a good, quick read.

I certainly hope everyone enjoyed last week's massive Halloween Special (you can still get that here, if you missed it), and I trust we all celebrated accordingly. Now, we head deeper into the fall, with the chill more firmly rooted to the air. It's a great season, so take hold while its brief moment lasts.

This week's episode sees a return to form, with no sharp themes to guide us. Since last week brought us mostly classic and traditional sounds, there are several new entries to be heard this week. Until 2011, England's Nosferatu had been silent since the late '90s, but earlier this year, they returned with a great new studio album entitled Wonderland. You'll hear a rich slice of that one, along with a new entry from their neighborhood, Grooving in Green, whose album Post Traumatic Stress has recently been reissued.

You'll also hear more from a pair of Pacific Northwestern acts who probably have never been referred to in the same paragraph before (but that's what I *do*). In the industrial portion of the show, you'll hear more from the latest God Module album, Séance. Then, as we grow heavier with the show, Wolves in the Throne Room will offer you another branch from their latest release, Celestial Lineage.

This week's show begins with a nod to one of the godfathers of horror cinema, Mr. Bela Lugosi, whose October 20th birthday could not be overlooked on a show such as this. It's hard to believe, but Bela was born back in 1882, so he would have been 129 this year, were he not (un)dead. Having recently re-watched "The Hunger" (1983), I found a renewed interest in the extremely well-used Bauhaus classic "Bela Lugosi's Dead," so for multiple reasons, this was the week to roll that song out at the top of the show.

For new music this week, you will hear further dark entries from Zola Jesus, who will be hitting Atlanta this coming Tuesday (Oct. 25th), as her Conatus tour arcs through the South. You'll also hear new material from a cavalcade of Metropolis Records artists, including Diary of Dreams, System Syn, and Imperative Reaction.

Further into the industrial spectrum, this week's show features a first-taste of HandOver, the forthcoming album from industrial pioneers, Skinny Puppy. Local Nashville artists Cryogen Second spill forth with another fine track from their Anthem for the Great Self Destruct album, as well.

Also on this week's show: New black metal sounds from Portland's Chasma, some not-to-be-forgotten local deathrock/goth, a blanket of ethereal pieces during the first set, and much more.
