This episode begins with an interesting mash-up. Although not a new release, it is probably new to most ears. On the heels of a very interesting Twin Peaks-themed event in Nashville last weekend, Colatron's mash-up of the classic Jimmy Scott song "Sycamore Trees," with the trip-hop noir of Portishead's "Cowboys," felt like a great way to start the show.

In the realm of brand new entries for this episode, we start with a pair of new releases from Projekt Records. Fans of Twin Peaks music may also enjoy the ethereal sounds of Autumn's Grey Solace, who begin with a selection entitled "Sáwol" (spirit, soul) from their latest album, Divinian. Following that, Adrian H and the Wounds make their 'Coffin debut with a selection from their self-titled Projekt debut, with a sound very friendly to fans of Tom Waits or Nick Cave.

Speaking of the illustrious Mr. Cave, the show then proceeds with a brand new single from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, taken from the soon-to-be-released Push the Sky Away. The band is hitting the road in support of the new album, which you can order in a variety of editions here, while you peruse all of their forthcoming tour dates.

One of the most often-heard bands on this show, ROME, gets the "Then and Now" treatment on this show. Having discussed his previous bands in a recent interview, Jerome Reuter led many a fan to look into the music of Mack Murphy & the Inmates. As the chief songwriter for the band in the early 2000's, Reuter penned dozens of great songs in a post-punk/folk-rock style, some of which would later be altered and stripped down to become beloved ROME favorites. You'll hear a side-by-side comparison of two versions of one such song, "Birds of Prey," on this episode.

We'll then sink one track deeper into Riot, the new album from the German gothic rock band, Golden Apes, before plunging into a set of classic post-punk, mixed with current post-punk, goth, and deathrock. As the next set grows more industrial, you'll hear another new track from The Ludovico Technique's Some Things Are Beyond Therapy.

All of that, plus: A nod to Pallbearer as they wind their way across North America again, a trip into the forgotten woods for a bit more black metal than usually heard on the show these days, Cult and 'Eerie' background selections, and more.

New Graphic for 2013. Feel free to spread it around.

This first episode of February 2013 begins with a new graphic (above) and a pair of somber acoustic tracks. The first one, "Le Vertige Du Vide (JR)" by ROME, is a stripped-down re-examination of an older song, interpreted in a more personal manner for the close of the recent "Fester" single. Following that, a selection from the latest Unto Ashes CD, Burials Foretold.

Lotus Feed returns to the show with a punchy number from their latest album, So Close... So Far, which sees the band continuing on its post-punk/goth path, but hitting perhaps a bit harder this time. We delve another track deeper into Ulterior's The Bleach Room, which has just emerged on vinyl. You can get that here. Also in the realm of good, solid modern goth, you'll hear another pulsing anthem from the new Grooving in Green album, Stranglehold.

As mentioned previously, I've been on quite the Black Ice kick as of late, so I decided to find out what happened to the band, whose website had grown rather quiet. My digging turned up the fact that several members had resurrected a project called Red Voice Choir, which had run alongside the existence of Black Ice for a time. As it happens, both bands were quite active in 2007, when they each released impressive full albums. In honor of that, you'll hear a "Then, and (also) Then" set, spotlighting what each project was doing at the time.

Continuing with the new releases, you'll take a deeper cut from the World's Greatest Horror Rock Band, Calabrese, who are about to wrap up a brand new video. Sweden's Brotherhood weave goth rock with synth-pop influences on a further cut from ...Turn the Gold to Chrome, while Germany's Aeon Sable ease us into the dark metal portion of the show as they apply a heavier sound to their goth influences on a track from their new Saturn Return album. Finally, a selection from the latest Katatonia album, Dead End Kings, makes it long-overdue debut on this episode.

All of that, plus: Another great damnbient journey from the new Treha Sektori album, some personal 'Coffin classics and underexposed recent releases from the vault, and a spotlight on this weekend's "Days of the Dead" convention happening in Atlanta, Georgia. Among the many great guests are Eerie Von (Danzig/Samhain), Ace Frehley (Kiss), and a nearly full cast reunion from one of the greatest horror films ever made, 1985's "The Return of the Living Dead." See the full guest list and convention details here, and maybe I'll see you there.
