Having just visited NYC, Philly, and much of my home state of New Jersey, I come to this show armed with some brand new things, and many overdue acquisitions that I picked up along the way -- in addition to a fresh coat of love for that area of the country -- but that's another story, for another time.

Under the strange name of .com/kill, the two core members of Diary of Dreams, Adrian Hates and Gaun:A, have just released a self-titled album of slightly more experimental industrial/darkwave -- which, for all intents and purposes, is rather close in sound to a new Diary of Dreams album. Consider that a good thing, of course. Meanwhile, their erstwhile collaborators and tour-mates in Diorama have re-emerged with a new album called Even the Devil Doesn't Care, from which you'll hear a selection.

A pair of overdue 7-inches make their debut on the show this time. First, the unexpected collaboration of the one and only David Lynch and the stellar talent of Zola Jesus, as heard on the b-side of her single, In Your Nature. Then, the b-side of the Unsound EP, from Richmond, Virginia peace-punk/goth band Lost Tribe finally makes an appearance on the show.

This episode also highlights the re-issue of a pair of once-obscure and out-of-print collections from the darkest side. Akhkharu's Celebratum collects the group's 1995 and 1996 cassette releases of ritual dark ambient landscapes, while Finnish black metal act Sargeist's The Rebirth of a Cursed Existence compiles on CD all of the band's material that was previously available solely on vinyl, tape or compilation releases.

While we're in the dark metal portion of the show, you'll hear brand new music from Canada's Monarque, whose album Lys Noir should help take you back to the classic atmospheric black metal golden age of the '90s. You'll also get a taste of the latest album from Salem, Oregon's Hell, entitled Hell III, and another dose of of the new Summoning album, Old Mornings Dawn, because it's just that good.

You'll hear all of that, PLUS: Deeper cuts from the latest Bloody Dead and Sexy, Savages, and salvation AMP albums; some more overdue local music from Sky Burial on the verge of their last show in Nashville as a local band; More cool tour news from Velvet Acid Christ; some more obscurities pulled from the goth vault; and much more...

This first episode of February 2013 begins with a new graphic (above) and a pair of somber acoustic tracks. The first one, "Le Vertige Du Vide (JR)" by ROME, is a stripped-down re-examination of an older song, interpreted in a more personal manner for the close of the recent "Fester" single. Following that, a selection from the latest Unto Ashes CD, Burials Foretold.

Lotus Feed returns to the show with a punchy number from their latest album, So Close... So Far, which sees the band continuing on its post-punk/goth path, but hitting perhaps a bit harder this time. We delve another track deeper into Ulterior's The Bleach Room, which has just emerged on vinyl. You can get that here. Also in the realm of good, solid modern goth, you'll hear another pulsing anthem from the new Grooving in Green album, Stranglehold.

As mentioned previously, I've been on quite the Black Ice kick as of late, so I decided to find out what happened to the band, whose website had grown rather quiet. My digging turned up the fact that several members had resurrected a project called Red Voice Choir, which had run alongside the existence of Black Ice for a time. As it happens, both bands were quite active in 2007, when they each released impressive full albums. In honor of that, you'll hear a "Then, and (also) Then" set, spotlighting what each project was doing at the time.

Continuing with the new releases, you'll take a deeper cut from the World's Greatest Horror Rock Band, Calabrese, who are about to wrap up a brand new video. Sweden's Brotherhood weave goth rock with synth-pop influences on a further cut from ...Turn the Gold to Chrome, while Germany's Aeon Sable ease us into the dark metal portion of the show as they apply a heavier sound to their goth influences on a track from their new Saturn Return album. Finally, a selection from the latest Katatonia album, Dead End Kings, makes it long-overdue debut on this episode.

All of that, plus: Another great damnbient journey from the new Treha Sektori album, some personal 'Coffin classics and underexposed recent releases from the vault, and a spotlight on this weekend's "Days of the Dead" convention happening in Atlanta, Georgia. Among the many great guests are Eerie Von (Danzig/Samhain), Ace Frehley (Kiss), and a nearly full cast reunion from one of the greatest horror films ever made, 1985's "The Return of the Living Dead." This episode is the first to be available as both a download and a stream. New to the show this time is a crop of more traditional goth and post-punk sounds. From the the UK, we have Angels of Liberty, who have several releases available on their Bandcamp site. I chose to start at the beginning, showcasing the title track from their Monster In Me EP (2011). It's an amazingly catchy and satisfying piece of energetic goth rock.

Also hailing from the UK, The Gaa Gaas make their debut on the show this time, flaunting their psyche-punk sound that evokes an early deathrock/batcave attitude. The song, "Hypnoti(z)ed" is taken from a new compilation from Peter Out Records, called The Peter Out Wave, which is intended to bring together acts from various scenes and countries that are (perhaps unintentionally) part of the new wave of post-punk. Grab it here.

Also featured on that compilation is France's Joy/Disaster, who have just released a new alt-post-punk album called Sickness. Their song "Suicide" is featured on both releases, as well as this episode. In the neo-classical realm, Portland, Oregon's Disemballerina have returned with another impressive new piece called "Sundowning," which is available on their Bandcamp site as well.

In the industrial realm, you'll hear a selection from the new Decoded Feedback album, disKonnekt; a remix from the latest Aesthetic Perfection single, A Nice Place to Destroy; an atypical cut from the new Grendel album, Timewave: Zero; and requested (and classic) music from the new Skinny Puppy live album, Bootlegged, Broke and Insolvent Seas. All of these releases are available now through Metropolis Records.

I also remember a couple of very different anniversaries on this episode: June 14th marks the 33rd anniversary of the release of Joy Division's classic debut "Unknown Pleasures," which originally fell into the hands of the already-in-the-know way back in 1979. And, on June 14th, 1956, the world saw the birth of Kim Petersen, who would later come to be known to the world as King Diamond.

Beyond that, this show is loaded with: Minimal neo-folk submissions, recently revisited film scores, current and classic goth-rock anthems, '90s-style doom, and '70s style atmosphere, in both musical and cinematic forms.

** AND... speaking of '70s style atmosphere, I will be DJing at Logue's Black Raven Emporium in East Nashville on Saturday June 23rd, alongside a screening of the classic 1973 film, Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural.
