This show starts with a nod and a birthday wish to Gary Numan, who turned 54 yesterday. To demonstrate how the man still has it after all these years, I chose to play the (almost) title-track to his latest release, Dead Son Rising on the way in.

Having just returned from a trip to Chicago that centered largely around the Polish section of town, it seemed curiously well-timed that two Polish bands would happen to turn up with new releases for this episode. First-up is Deathcamp Project, who recently returned with the Painthings album, filled with harder edged Goth Rock. Then, you'll hear the more coldwave/deathrock sound of Cabaret Grey, whose new EP, Stirring, can be streamed HERE.

Also new to the show this week is yet another fresh single from Italy's Chemical Waves. "Murders TV" is a rhythmic, hypnotic musical track, verbalized only by the social observations of a serial killer. For me, it's reminiscent of The Cure's track "Pornography," with some of the atmosphere last heard from cult favorites, The God Machine. You can download the single for free HERE.

In the dark ambient/industrial realm, you'll here a new entry from Russia's Lamia Vox, as well as a new track from Sweden's Atrium Carceri. In the dark metal portion of the show, we'll delve deeper into Sorrow and Extinction, the brand new album from Pallbearer, whose sense of doom is currently winning reviewers over around the world.

Plus: Great moments in Italian Horror Music, George Romero's continuing influence on modern bands, the great 'King' of insomnia's love of black and fright films, regional events to check out, and loads of other current and classic dark music.

This episode brings new music from Naiades, the brand new album/art collection from Monica Richards. You should recognize her name and art style from her work with Faith and the Muse. The new release is available as a book/CD combo HERE.

Finally making it to the show this time around is the single "Take Forever," which is a collaboration between Irish electronic act The Japanese Popstars (your guess is as good as mine) and Robert Smith (of The Cure). It did, in fact,"take forever" for me to get this one on the show, but it's well worth the wait.

The release of the debut full-length from one of the greatest doom bands in the US, Pallbearer, is finally here. Sorrow & Extinction, released by Profound Lore Records, will no doubt top many year-end lists for 2012 -- but before then, opportunities to catch their live show are stacking up. Dates in New York and Texas have just been announced, and this weekend will bring a pair of official CD release shows, first in their home state of Arkansas (details HERE), then Saturday night in Nashville (details HERE). Both shows will also feature Loss on the bill.

Speaking of Nashville's music scene: This episode's local spotlight is thrown on the debut EP from a newly-transplanted industrial act that now calls Nashville home: Frontal Boundary. You can check out the sounds of "Electronic Warfare" HERE.

New sounds from the forthcoming Locrian & Mamiffer dark noise collaboration will also filter in, alongside tracks from the latest releases by The Beauty of Gemina and The Frozen Autumn. We'll also peel back another layer of Alcest's latest, Les Voyages De L'âme. This week's show begins with another new live track from Dead Can Dance, who have just released Part III in their free, online series, Live Happenings. The series is designed to whet fans' appetites for their forthcoming new album and tour. To learn more, or grab these EPs for yourself, click HERE.

Brand new to the show this week is Bulgarian band Voyvoda, whose atypical sound combines elements of Balkan folk music and Eastern Orthodox chants with cold wave and post-punk influences. Their new album is called Изток (Iztok), and you can stream it HERE.

Also appearing for the first time on this episode are Italy's Chemical Waves, whose new single "The Origin" can be streamed HERE. It's an unusual piece of post-punk experimentation, chronicling a journey through the history of mankind's cruelty unto itself, through an act like a holocaust.

Other new entries include: A remix from the latest Aesthetic Perfection single, Inhuman; a deeper look into one of the three new albums from ROME; a second look at the new EP from Puerto Rico's The Dead Souls, and two more new dark ambient tracks from Norway's Plague Machinery and Psychomanteum (USA).

The regional concert spotlight for this episode is thrown on two acts that will be hitting the greater TN/AL area in the next week: Zola Jesus, who will be playing in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, February 11th; and VNV Nation, who will play Nashville's Exit/In on February 15th. On a side note, you will catch me at both of these shows. For the VNV Nation show, I will be DJing (along with DJ Jimmy) before and between the bands.

Following the take-down of Megaupload last week, the links for all 2011 episodes are currently broken, BUT there will soon be a new way of downloading past and present episodes of "Out ov the Coffin." Expect a post about that as soon as the details are hammered out. In the meantime, this episode (as well the last one) have been uploaded to Mediafire.

Among the new releases featured on the show this time, you'll find Puerto Rico's The Dead Souls, who play a brand of post-punk reminiscent of bands like The Chameleons. Their new EP Ambition is currently available as a free download on their Bandcamp site.

Returning with their first album since 2005, Italy's The Frozen Autumn emerge with Chirality -- a scientific term that describes an object or being that is not identical to its mirror image. If applied to their sound, it could make a statement about the '80s new wave and synth-pop influences they wear proudly, but do not merely imitate.

You'll also hear further new tracks from: Iscariot Blues, the latest album from Switzerland's The Beauty of Gemina; Icon:Koru, the new industrial set from Germany's [:SITD:]; and two more selections from the Kalpamantra label's Saur Maas compilation, in the form of songs by Unknown Vistae and Canadian experimental artist, Aidan Baker.

At the end of the show, you'll hear a taste of the latest from France's Alcest, who have just released their 3rd full-length of shoe-gazing black metal, entitled Les Voyages De L'âme. Believe it or not, the band will be touring the US this spring, and even hitting the Southeastern United States. You can see their tour dates here.

This episode kicks off with a brand new track from Autumn Cannibals, which started as the solo project of Jeff Diehm from The Last Dance, and has now grown into more of a full band. The single "Worn" serves as a teaser for the second Autumn Cannibals release, expected later this year.

From Metropolis Records this week, three new entries emerge: The bluesy, gothic rock of Switzerland's The Beauty of Gemina, from their forthcoming release, Iscariot Blues; then, some atypical EBM from South Africa's Acretongue, whose new release is Strange Cargo; and, finally, the more aggressive side of ebm/industrial, as represented by Germany's [:SITD:], from their latest release, Icon:Koru.

You'll also hear me talk quite a bit about a new compilation from the Kalpamantra label entitled Saur Maas, which collects 72 tracks of mostly dark ambient bands -- for FREE! You can grab the download of this compilation HERE. You're sure to hear many, many selections from this release on future shows, since it's full of great atmosphere, but included on this episode are four of those acts: Ukraine's First Human Ferro, Germany's E.V.P., Sweden's Nebulosation, and France's Treha Sektori, who I often mention are among my favorite dark ambient acts.

This show also delves further into the latest releases from ROME and Sólstafir, rescues a couple of songs that were sadly left out of the "Best ov 2011" episode, hits more fresh material from IAMX (check out the video!) and Dead Can Dance's Brendan Perry, offers some interesting covers of classic songs, and closes with the spotlight thrown on the recent remaster/reissue of the 4-way doom metal split, Fo(u)r Burials, on both CD and Vinyl.

This week, I took a long look back at the year that was 2011, and -- as usual -- I couldn't pare it down to the length of a regular episode. Hence, what we have here is a 3.5 hour MEGA-SODE, celebrating the best in dark music over the past year, with entries from the fields of gothic rock, post-punk, deathrock, darkwave, ebm, industrial, neoclassical, dark metal, film scores, and yet uncharted areas of the bizarre realms of sonic art.

I should note that this show is done in an order that sounds good and flows well, rather than any sort of ranking, so think of this episode as a time capsule, rather than a countdown. I'm sure I've left something or somebody out, so don't hang the DJ. I did my best to highlight the most impressive albums, the catchiest singles, and the rest of the sounds that may remain tied to memories of this past year. And I hope you enjoy it.

I haven't made a formal short-list of my fvorite albums of 2011, but I will share that I was very impressed with the three new ROME albums, quite pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the new Nosferatu material, quite often found listening to Ulterior's infectious sound, proud to have watched Cryogen Second become the band that they are, very glad to see the (re)emergence of Brighter Fires as a creative force, and, of course, honored by all of the great feedback that the Loss album received this year. PODCAST: December 22nd, 2011 - The Xmas Bonus!

Normally, there would not have been an episode this week, but as I recalled last year's "Out ov the Coffin 39 and 1/2 foot Xmas Special," and how much fun that was, it seemed a shame to let it fall into obscurity; however, I didn't want to upload a pure re-run. So, I took that show, chopped it up, kept the best parts, added some new ones, and reworked the whole thing as a new special for this year: "The Out ov the Coffin Xmas Bonus 2011!"

Now, for those that have never heard an "Out ov the Coffin" Xmas Special, I should warn you that this is not at all a typical episode. In fact, it's a complete oddball, framing the Christmas season in a mixture of holiday horror, warped nostalgia, and absolute silliness. It's still done from a goth perspective, of corpse, but this would be the episode in which my sense of humor does most of the driving, and the references become a bit... abstract. What can I say? Christmas is for children, so I'm going to act like one, haha. Having said that: You have been warned...

Featured on this bonus podcast, you will hear a brand new Christmas song from The Cruxshadows, who provide two of the only serious moments in the whole show.
