Welcome to another episode that is simply loaded with new music.

The UK's AlterRed makes their debut on this episode with a selection from their Dollstown album. Their sound is a blend of electro and cabaret, which has drawn comparisons to such acts as IAMX; hence, I paired the two acts in the first set.

Out of Scotland comes The Twilight Sad, whose video for the song "Another Bed" caught my eyes this week. The song, which is included on this show, is taken from their latest album, No One Can Ever Know.

On the heels of the last show's debut of the UK's Terminal Gods, the band has decided to make a free, online release of their previous EP of traditional goth rock, Genesis, from which you'll hear a song on this episode. Get that EP for yourself, right here.

Also not to be missed: Another extremely catchy song from Brooklyn's Night Vision, whose brand of new darkwave continues to stick in my head. You can still grab their EP for free, right here, while it lasts.

Darker Days Tomorrow makes its debut on this episode as well, premiering a song from their 3rd, and latest, album False Prophets. The band currently has a Kickstarter campaign underway to fund the production of a music video, so if you'd like to join the cause, go here.

On the instrumental side of the fence, Italy's Chemical Waves provides a new track from their Sweet Candy Bullets EP (free right here), as does the Czech Republic's Tongue, with a track from their At the Beginning... album (free right here). You'll also hear new dark ambient selections from Sweden's Necrophorus and Poland's Atum, whose latest EP can be downloaded here.

During the industrial portion of the show, you'll hear a track from T.A.L.O.S., the latest from the Greek band PreEmptive Strike 0.1, along with a pair of excerpts from Alan Silvestri's score for the new Avengers film, which are wrapped around the new single from Dutch aggro-tech/ebm band Grendel, taken from their latest album Timewave: Zero. Incidentally, the video for that title track can be viewed here.

Towards the end, in the dark metal portion of the show, you'll hear a further cut from Anhedonist's new Netherwards album. Closing the show is a 30-minute epic taken from the latest Aldebaran CD, Embracing The Lightless Depths, available now from Profound Lore Records.

This episode is absolutely loaded with new (dark) entries that have been stacking up over the last month. There were so many new things to play, in fact, that some of them will have to wait until the next episode, on May 31st.

My favorite Horror Rock band, Calabrese, is set to release a brand new album this summer, and they've given us one taste so far, in the form of the track "Dead Don't Rise." As expected, it's extremely catchy, and I can't wait to hear the rest of the new material. The new CD, Dayglo Necros, will be out on July 1st, but you can pre-order it now (and get some free extras) right here.

Brooklyn nu-wave/darkwave band Night Vision also makes their debut on this episode, with a track from their equally catchy new self-titled EP. Their sound is soaked in classic '80s new wave, '90s goth, and just a dash of more modern electronic influence. You can grab their EP for free, right here, for a limited time only.

For those hungry for some new, traditional UK Goth Rock, look no further than Terminal Gods, whose upbeat approach is its own infection. Their new single is entitled "Electric Eyes," and you can listen to more from them right here.

Returning to the show this time is the Belgian band Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat, with another great song from their masterful foray into darkwave/goth, Weltuntergangsstimmung. Also, for the terror-ebm-lovers, Metropolis has just released The Suicide Sessions 1, which re-issues and expands Suicide Commando's first full-length album, 1994's Critical Stage.

In the dark metal portion of this episode, you'll get a taste of the new Moonspell album, Alpha Noir (also out in a double-disc version, Alpha Noir/Omega White), a song from the new Les Discrets album, Ariettes Oubliées…, and a debut from the Ukrainian band Raventale, who evoke a late '90s atmospheric, dark/black metal sound.

PODCAST: May 4th, 2012 [30th Anniversary Tribute to the Cure's "Pornography"]

On May 4th, 1982, The Cure released what many consider to be their ultimate masterpiece, Pornography. From end to end, it was a suffocatingly dark piece to consume, loaded with intentionally difficult sounds, and lyrics that acted as brushstrokes in a confused and reluctant mural of existentialist horror.

Even for a band that was already playing what would later be labeled as goth and darkwave, their new direction arrived as a headfirst dive into unlit waters -- or, more to the point, the taking-at-once of every step between what they had been, and the extremes they could only endure for long enough to record what their own meltdown would sound like. It was the album that nearly destroyed them, but, in time, it was also the album that made them absolutely legendary.

For me, Pornography is the greatest album ever made. It's not something one can listen to every day. In fact, it doesn't play well with daylight at all. It's potent and relentless in its atmosphere -- but, when the mood is right, there is nothing like the transformation it brings. I dare say it helped to create a generation of goths. It certainly changed me.

In honor of Pornography's 30th anniversary, this entire episode serves as a tribute to the album's creation, its influence, and its undeniable longevity. As I'm sure that everyone is able to hear the original album on their own (if not, listen to it here), I have avoided playing more than one of the original album tracks, and instead filled this episode with live versions, demos, rarities, trivia, hand-picked covers by varied acts, and excerpts of Pornography-centered interviews with Robert Smith himself.

The Cure: "Siamese Twins" w/ the Royal Ballet (1983)

The Cult-Media world lost two stars this week, so this episode begins with a small tribute to each of them. A montage of "Dark Shadows" sounds serves as a tribute to Jonathan Frid, who passed away on Friday the 13th of April. Frid immortalized the character of Barnabas Collins, and turned several generations on to Gothic pop-culture through his years in that infamous role. I chose to focus on a personal favorite of mine, 1970's full-length film "House of Dark Shadows," from which I chose the elements of the montage you'll hear at the top of the show.

Although his death came a day after Frid's, the news of William Finley's death preceded Frid's by a couple of days. Finley most famously played the dual role of Winslow Leach and the titular phantom in Brian De Palma's 1974 film, "Phantom of the Paradise," a cult classic that tied together '70s atmospheric horror, satire, and rock opera. I included a bit of his dialogue from the film, over a piece of Paul Williams' score, as a lead in to Faith and the Muse's brilliant cover of the film's classic musical centerpiece, "Old Souls."

May both men rest in peace.

New to the show this week is an album that I feel has already found its way to my Best of 2012 list, Weltuntergangsstimmung by the Belgian band Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat. Realizing that many people will have difficulty getting past their chosen band name, I encourage you to just set that aside and listen to what a solid example of modern darkwave they have just released. This being their first foray into that style -- having already turned in impressive sets of neo-folk and meditative psychedelia -- the skill on display becomes that much more noteworthy.

In the heavier realm, you will hear new music from Dusk | Subside, the new release from Australia's Inverloch, which contains members of cult death/doom favorites Disembowelment. Closing the show is a selection from the much-anticipated new release from Seattle's Anhedonist, whose new album of death/doom fusion, Netherwards is already claiming spots on "Best of" lists yet to come.

Also on this episode: More new Greek post-punk from We Came From Waters; a further cut from Puerto Rico's The Dead Souls, a "Twin Peaks" musical rarity from the abundant archives at davidlynch.com, a sadly overlooked current-era b-side from The Cure, and live-show spotlights on the upcoming Gilead Media Music Fest in Wisconsin, as well as on Rwake, who will be performing in Nashville tonight at The End.

Sometimes, the space between two episodes feels quite brief. This time, however, so many things have taken place, and are about to take place, that the show is packed with spotlights, reflections, and memorials.

I had the great fortune of traveling to California this past weekend to play a concert. Along the way, I pondered how I might handle my traditional, annual tribute to Rozz Williams, as I would likely be in an airport on the anniversary of his death, unable to sensibly sport a Christian Death shirt without receiving a pat-down, let alone play a set of his music for anyone. Thanks to a local friend's advice, though, I was able to have a more meaningful experience than ever before, by actually visiting his memorial in person:

Standing in front of the ashes of one your favorite artists, staring at this words and images on display, brings a new meaning to the term "paying your respects." In that moment, I left a small sum of my admiration upon the glass that shrouded his remains, and I've attempted to carry the feeling I had that morning into a tribute set on this episode. Rest in peace, Rozz.

I'd have to say that the biggest music news of the week has been the announcement of a US tour from the legendary Dead Can Dance. I'm most excited, of course, about their Nashville date (September 4th @ The Ryman), but you can see all of the dates here. While you're there, you can download a free copy of the newly released Live Happenings: Part IV, a selection from which is featured on this episode.

This episode opens with a debut from the Austrian band Cold Flesh Colony. Their sound is an unusual mix of post-punk bass-lines, industrial beats, and near-black-metal vocal delivery. Their new album is entitled The Dark Passenger, and it is available as a free or a pay download here.

Out of Texas, you'll hear brand new music from the band Ending the Vicious Cycle, whose love for old-school gothic rock would be hard to mask. Their single is called 1,000 Words, and you can learn more about that one here.

From the Metropolis Records camp, you'll hear from two new releases: The more rock-infused, old-school industrial sound of Inure, from their new album The Offering; then, a remix from the new EP by Everything Goes Cold, who have kept things on their own EBM/Industrial terms with The Tyrant Sun.

Also new to the show this week: A closer look at Painthings, from Poland's Deathcamp Project; new dark ambient sounds from Pennsylvania's Deorsum Fluens; and the latest single (and video) from Alcest, in honor of their tour hitting this part of the US this week.
