EPISODE NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:

First, a little bit of housekeeping: This episode is labeled the April-May episode to mark a slight transition in the launch dates. Instead of uploading each episode at the tail end of each month, episodes will now be launched at the top of each month, just to keep things fresh. So, this is basically the April episode you would have gotten last week, while the one I record at the end of this month will launch in June.

Making up for that slight delay and change, this show has several special bonus features, bringing it up to a full 3 hours. In addition to a nice list of new releases, deeper cuts from current releases, and tracks from the vault, you will also hear a special tribute set to The Cure, marking this month's 35th anniversary of Pornography, as well as the 30th anniversary of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. Then, in honor of the forthcoming premiere of the new season/series, we'll take an "accidental" musical journey through Twin Peaks, AND close the show with annual respects paid to Rozz Williams, just in case anyone thought I'd forgotten.

On the way in, you'll hear new music from Oakland's Esses, the latest group (in a long line of worthy groups) to feature members of the oft-praised bay-area band Black Ice. Their new album slipped out towards the end of last year, and it would've been on my 'Best ov' list if I'd heard it in time. Can't win 'em all.

We begin the first full set with more new goth rock from
Philadelphia's Night Sins, taken from their Sisters-soaked Dancing Chrome album, then pick up a deeper cut from Aware, the latest from Italy's Tanks and Tears. After a classic from Siouxsie & the Banshees, we visit Russia, for new post-punk from TRIØXIN (extra points for that band name), followed by a taste of the new Clan of Xymox album, Days of Black, which sees the band mostly continuing in the darkwave/goth style that put them on the map. Matias 13, known better to most as the guitarist for Germany's Bloody Dead and Sexy, has filled the void between their releases with a solo, mostly-instrumental album called The Opium Sea, from which you'll hear a song, followed by a classic from France's best '90s goth export, Corpus Delicti, to celebrate the arrival of their new vinyl reissues

The second set begins in Ukraine, with a song from the curiously named post-punk band,
Battle Axe Culture. I then lament the fact that I'm missing Horror Vacui's current US tour by playing one of their recent classics, followed by a further taste of U.S. goth/post-punk/darkwave band New Today. A deeper cut from Chicago's Wingtips comes next, in honor of their upcoming live appearance at the May 13th edition of Fascination Street (Nashville's goth, post-punk, deathrock, darkwave dance night). After a recent track from Minuit Machine-related project Hante., we get a new Fad Gadget cover, as interpreted by US darkwave act NOIR (Athan Maroulis of Spahn Ranch fame), followed by a modern classic from the presumably-defunct(?) LA band, Pins and Needles

Next, we arrive at the special double-anniversary tribute set to The Cure, featuring several original tracks, a new cover by Portland's Lunch, some rare, period interview clips, and some early/alternate versions of now iconic tracks. All of this to honor the 35th anniversary of the release of Pornography (May 4th, 1982) and the 30th anniversary of Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (May 25th, 1987). Keep your eyes peeled, as I will also be re-upping my 2012 special episode, dedicated entirely to the majesty of Pornography (the album, you perverts!), as it is my favorite album of all time.

For the second special bonus set of the show, I've gathered a whole set of music that gives me the vibe (if you will) of the Twin Peaks universe, without actually having been recorded for the series (or the movie). Included is music from the newly reissued Tear Garden album,
Have a Nice Trip, and more new music from the latest Worm Ouroboros album, What Graceless Dawn. I have put this together, of corpse, in honor of the new series/season that will be starting up on May 21st, WHICH WILL BE GREAT, RIGHT? We hope so...

We then arrive at the dark metal portion of this extra-long show, which begins with new music from the
Pvtrefactio 7-inch, just issued by Finland's Celestial Grave. A couple of forgotten classicks from the melodic death and black metal vaults follow, from Night In Gales and Mütiilation, respectively, before giving you a second taste of Nocta, from the UK's goth-metal flagbearers, Light of the Morning Star. A second taste of the new Pallbearer album, Heartless, rounds out the metal for the night, allowing us to close the show with my annual remembrance of the life of Rozz Williams (Christian Death, Shadow Project, etc.), who took his own life in April of 1998. R.I.P./1334.

All of that, PLUS: News, updates, and tour info
; selections from the dark ambient vaults; and more!
