PLAYLIST & PODCAST: Thursday, April 28th, 2011

This week brought new music from Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows, who released an interesting cover, as a teaser for the forthcoming "Have You Seen This Ghost?" CD. The song, "It is safe to SLEEP alone," (originally entitled "Sleep") was written by Angelo Badalamenti (of Twin Peaks fame), with vocals originally performed by Marianne Faithful.

We also got a taste of the forthcoming Diary of Dreams album, "Ego:X," in the form of the track "Echo In Me." This version is available on their Bandcamp site, but will not be the same as the one that will eventually be released on the full album, so grab it while you can.

The spotlight was also thrown on two tours, during the industrial portion of the show: The Sinister Whisperz Tour, featuring My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, 16 Volt, and Twitch the Ripper, which will be rolling through Nashville on Sunday May 1st (w/ local guests Cryogen Second), and the tour that will hit the Shelter in Atlanta tonight: Aesthetic Perfection, Faderhead and Everything Goes Cold.

Otherwise, here's the podcast version of the show:

PLAYLIST & PODCAST: Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Sorry for the delay in posting this episode, everyone. The captured audio was stuck in limbo, somewhere on the server, while last week's episode remained on the website. We had to wait through the weekend for Monday, when our tech guy could fix the problem.

This episode brought us some new sounds from Peter Murphy, a live clip taken from a rare in-studio appearance at a radio station in Pittsburgh [full stream of that interview available here], where Murphy and his two guitarists preformed acoustic versions of a few tracks, including the mash-up of "A Strange Kind of Love" and "Bela Lugosi's Dead," that he's been performing on tour lately. I like to call it, "A Strange Kind of Bela," myself.

On the heavier side, we also heard brand new tracks from Primordial and Kampfar, both of whom are about to release what sound like strong albums. The new Primordial is called "Redemption at the Puritan's Hand," while the new Kampfar is simply entitled "Mare."

This week's show was also loaded with fast-paced, traditional gothic rock sounds, gems brought forth from the vaults, and two very different anniversaries. Make sure to take advantage of the podcast version of this episode, which you can download right here:

This week's episode provided a spotlight on DARKFEST 2011, an annual US darkwave/industrial tour, whose line-up this year includes Ego Likeness, The Ludovico Technique, and Twitch the Ripper (who made their 'Coffin debut on this week's episode). The Nashville show, which will happen this Sunday @ The Rutledge, also includes Cryogen Second, along with DJ Dansenoir (Chattanooga) and myself. Here's the flyer:

PLAYLIST & PODCAST: Thursday, March 31st, 2011

This week's show was dedicated to the memory of Rozz Williams (November 6, 1963 - April 1, 1998), known to most as the founder of Christian Death, but also beloved for his solo material, his spoken word releases and poetry, his many forms of visual art, and a whole list of varied musical projects, including Premature Ejaculation and Shadow Project. April 1st, 2011 marked the 13th anniversary of his death, so I included a bit more in my annual memorial set this year.

After the tribute set, the show continued as it traditionally would, featuring brand new music from The Silence Industry and Burzum, another teaser for the upcoming Darkfest 2011 Tour with Ego Likeness and The Ludovico Technique, and a host of dark musical classics and newcomers.

* Note about the podcast version of this episode: Once again, the WRVU Audio Archiver is not working, so this show was captured using an old Radio Shark. For the most part, that works, but it ran into trouble buffering about 30 minutes in, during the 2nd talk break. So, if it sounds like I'm speaking very quickly in spots, or dropping words, that's because little pieces of audio were lost while the device buffered. The good news is that all of the music before and after that break are intact. Enjoy...
